Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Broc Feeney has scored his 16th pole of the season at Sandown following an evolving qualifying session and Top 10 Shootout at the Penrite Oil Sandown 500.
Changeable conditions impacted qualifying throughout its two stages, but it was Feeney’s teammate Will Brown missing out on a Top 10 Shootout berth again after sitting out the final stages.
Brown was the only finalist to be absent for the Top 10 Shootout as the weather conditions continued to be more treacherous.
Feeney was fourth out in the Top 10 Shootout, but made the most gain from seventh to pole.
DEWALT Racing’s Anton De Pasquale was the least to go out in the Shootout and fell 0.211s short of Feeney’s benchmark to share the front-row.
It’s an all-Walkinshaw Andretti United second-row, with first Finals qualifier Chaz Mostert shares it alongside Ryan Wood.
Kai Allen was fifth for Penrite Racing ahead of Cam Hill after the Sherrin Rentals Racing Camaro lost 2s running wide at Turn 1.
Matt Payne will line up seventh alongside Monster Castrol Racing’s Cam Waters.
The final row is shared by two drivers to go off track during their laps as Thomas Randle and Bryce Fullwood were both caught out by the conditions.
Race 31 of the Repco Supercars Championship from Sandown is set to begin at 3:30pm AEDT.
