Broc Feeney takes the opening race in Tasmania

Despite missing out on pole, Broc Feeney demonstrated superior race pace to win the opening encounter at the Snowy River Caravans Super 440 at Symmons Plains.

Feeney passed Monster Castrol Racing’s Thomas Randle during the opening stint and was never headed despite taking four tyres during his stop to score victory.

Randle did drop to third after Will Brown forced his way past in the same manoeuvre as Feeney, but the championship leader was delayed in his pit stop to end the race fifth.

Brad Jones Racing enjoyed a successful opening race following its Toyota announcement led by Bryce Fullwood scoring third and Jaxon Evans in seventh.

Randle won the start, but Feeney made his move at the hairpin halfway through the opening stint to take the lead at the penultimate corner and a switchback move behind elevated Brown to second.

Feeney led the way after the pit stops, but Brown failed to emerge in second after a slow pit stop due to the spike not being removed properly. This demoted him behind an early pitting Fullwood, Randle and Cam Waters.

Fullwood proved successful with the undercut, but fuel was a concern leading to major conservation for 15 laps prior to the end, which was rewarded with third.

Behind Brown in fifth, Ryan Wood demonstrated strong race pace to be sixth in the Mobil 1 Truck Assist Racing mustang from Evans, Brodie Kostecki in the lead Shell V-Power Racing Team Mustang, James Golding for PremiAir Racing and wily veteran James Courtney in the Snowy River Caravans entry.

Richie Stanaway, Jack Le Brocq, Kai Allen, Cam Hill and Chaz Mostert were just outside the top 10.

Will Davison was the only driver to endure a spin when Macauley Jones nudged the rear entering the hairpin, with the Brad Jones Racing driver receiving a 15s penalty.

Matt Payne started from the back and made it to 16th, bringing Anton De Pasquale along as well.

Nick Percat was also delayed in pit lane and finished 22nd.

Race 12 for the Repco Supercars Championship at the Snowy River Caravans Super 440 is due to start at 3:55pm AEST.
