Cam Waters has taken the Thursday bragging roughest after setting the fastest time in the sole Repco Supercars Championship session at the bp Adelaide Grand Final.
Waters set a 1m 19.576s driving the Monster Castrol Racing Mustang in the closing stages of the session to pip TRADIE Racing’s David Reynolds by 0.006s.
Shell V-Power Racing Team’s Brodie Kostecki was third from Anton De Pasquale’s DEWALT Racing Camaro and Thomas Randle completed the top five for Monster Castrol Racing.
Of the four Finalists, Chaz Mostert was the best in his Mobil 1 Optus Racing Ford Mustang in sixth ahead of title rival Will Brown in the only Red Bull Ampol Racing Camaro inside the top 10.
Matt Payne was eight for Penrite Racing ahead of fellow New Zealander André Heimgartner, who was involved in an odd incident also involving Kai Allen.
Heimgartner left pit lane as Allen was approaching pit exit on the circuit at speed leaving the R&J Batteries Racing Camaro to sweep across the circuit in avoidance.
Rounding out the top 10 was Ryan Wood for Mobil 1 Truck Assist Racing.
Championship leader Broc Feeney placed 11th, while the last Finalist was Allen down in 18th.
Tickford Racing Wildcard racer Austin Cindric finished his first Supercars session 23rd.
Supercars action continues on Friday, with the second practice session due to begin at 10:30am ACDT or 11:00am AEDT.
