The inaugural Repco Sprint Cup is hit the halfway point following the Snowy River Caravans 440 at Symmons Plains and it’s tight at both end of the scale.
Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Broc Feeney snatched back the lead at Symmons Plains following his two victories and a second, while teammate Will Brown endured a tough weekend in comparison.
Brown now has a 33-point deficit to Feeney, but there are a number of hungry drivers ready to take advantage of a Red Bull Ampol Racing slip up.
Recent race winner Matt Payne vaulted up to third in the standings 42-points behind Brown for Penrite Racing, but the New Zealander has Cam Waters for close company at just 16-points in arrears leading the Monster Castrol Racing squad.
There is some distance back to Chaz Mostert after his miserable trip to Tasmania produced limited results and a small points haul has dropped him out of touch of the lead quartet to the tune of 149-points.
Mostert also has an eager pack of drivers led by Thomas Randle covered by less than 100-points.
Randle, Brodie Kostecki, Cameron Hill, Andre Heimgartner and Ryan Wood complete the top 10, which at this current stage qualify for the Finals.
Wood on 539-points is 15 ahead of James Golding, 42 clear of Anton De Pasquale and Nick Percat is a further 64 behind.
So, the ‘bubble’ for the Finals features the best part of eight drivers in contention at the halfway stage of the Repco Sprint Cup.
The Repco Sprint Cup comprises of rounds in Perth, Darwin, Towsnville and Queensland Raceway before Shell V-Power Raceway alongside Bathurst makes up the Enduro Cup. Winners of these two segments automatically qualify for the finals in addition to the top 10 drivers in the standings.
The Finals Series then completes the season eliminating the bottom three drivers from the Gold Coast and Sandown ahead of Adelaide.
Carco.com.au Raceway is up next for the Repco Supercars Championship on June 6-8.
