James Courtney sets the pace in Adelaide

It was a surprise result to kick off the final Repco Supercars Championship round at the VAILO Adelaide 500 as Snowy River Racing’s James Courtney set the pace.

Courtney set a 1m 19.683s to be fastest at the end of the opening session for the Repco Supercars Championship albeit on green tyres.

While Courtney enjoyed a trouble-free session, others including Bendix Racing’s Nick Percat and Anton De Pasquale of Shell V-Power Racing Team cut the Turn 1-2 chicane just a little too much.

Both Percat and De Pasquale had damaged front guards after colliding with the inside tyre bundle, but expect the two entries to be in pristine condition for tomorrow’s busy schedule.

TRADIE Beer Racing’s David Reynolds was second just 0.155s in arrears from Percat.

De Pasquale’s Shell V-Power Racing Team partner Will Davison was fourth ahead of Mobil 1 Optus Racing’s Chaz Mostert and championship leader Will Brown of Red Bull Ampol Racing.

Reigning champion Brodie Kostecki in the Erebus Motorsport Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 was seventh ahead of last year’s Adelaide winner Matt Payne of Penrite Racing, Matt Stone Racing’s Cam Hill and Andre Heimgartner for R&J Batteries Racing.

Red Bull Ampol Racing’s other title contender in the form of Broc Feeney was 13th just behind Monster Castrol Racing’s Cam Waters.

It was the one and only session for the Repco Supercars Championship on the opening day of action.

Practice 2 begins tomorrow at 1:05pm local time and qualifying later in the day at 5:30pm.
