James Warburton has been confirmed as the new Supercars CEO replacing Shane Howard in the role.
Previously the Supercars CEO between 2013 and 2017, Warburton left the role to take on a similar position at advertising firm APN Outdoor before moving to the Seven Network as its CEO for five-years.
Set to start on July 23, Warburton’s appointment ends a global search by Supercars for its new CEO after Howard was announced as vacating the position in March to move into a Director of Motorsport role.
Warburton returns to Supercars following an array of change since his previous stint including the introduction of Gen3 and new ownership under the RACE consortium.
“Supercars holds a very special place in Australian sport, and I’m honoured to be returning to lead the business into its next phase,” Warburton said.
“This is a championship with passionate fans, incredible on-track action, and huge potential to grow.
“The business has evolved significantly in recent years and I’m excited to build on the strong foundation already in place.
“I want to thank the Board for the opportunity and can’t wait to get started.”
RACE chairman Barclay Nettlefold welcomed Warburton to the position.
“James is an energetic, strategic and results-driven executive,” said Nettlefold.
“He understands the DNA of our sport and has a proven track record of delivering commercial success and building trusted relationships with teams, partners, broadcasters and fans alike.“His return reflects our ambition to strengthen Supercars’ position as a world-class sporting and entertainment product.”
