Shell V-Power Racing Team highlights teaching and sharing culture with Indigenous livery

The Shell V-Power Racing Team has revealed an Indigenous livery highlighting an intergenerational teaching and sharing culture story designed by Kurun Warun for the Darwin Triple Crown.

Warun’s artwork uses natural elements across the land to tell the story including the traditional kangaroo hunting dance, which is used as a way of passing skills from Elders to younger generations. The mother figure is seen teaching, while behind her, Warun’s wife and three children observe. Community members watch on opposite to the previous scene marking the collective responsibility of raising and guiding the next generation.

Warun is a descendant of Queen of Tasmania, Truganini and the Framlingham Mission, whose art has enjoyed international recognition such as from Oprah Winfrey. Not only a talented artist, Warun is also a skilled didgeridoo player and traditional dancer.

“It’s awesome – it’s the first time I’ve ever had a painting on race cars and it’s a thrill just to be part of it,” Warun said.

“It’s a proud moment for me and my family – my kids and friends. We’re just hoping that the team win now.”

Shell V-Power Racing Team CEO David Noble was appreciative to have Warun and his artwork part of the Darwin weekend.

“Kurun Warun’s artwork is particularly striking and looks amazing when presented on our Shell V-Power Mustangs,” Noble said.

“We are proud to be able to showcase his artwork on the cars as well as through the uniforms our drivers and team will wear during the event. We’re also excited to say the pit walling in our garage will strongly feature Kurun Warun’s work so it will be highly visible throughout the event.”

Warun will be part of the Shell V-Power Racing Team this weekend at Hidden Valley Raceway, while the livery will remain for the next Repco Supercars Championship round in Townsville.
