Jamie Whincup and Garth Tander led the way after the sole additional driver practice session as part of the lead up to Bathurst at Sandown this afternoon.
Whincup set a 1m 08.230s lap to pace the session from teammate Garth Tander by 0.282s, while Mobil 1 Optus Racing’s Fabian Coulthard was third from Shell V-Power Racing Team’s Tony D’Alberto and Monster Energy Racing driver James Moffat.
The second Shell V-Power Racing Team Mustang of Alex Davison was sixth, with surprise pole winner at The Bend Zak Best, the R&J Batteries Commodore of Dale Wood, Jack Perkins in the lead Boost Mobile Racing by Erebus entry and Jordan Boys in Macauley Jones’ BJR Holden completing the top 10.
Experienced co-drivers in the form of David Russell and Michael Caruso were just shy of the top 10, while Matthew Payne was the first rookie in 14th, just ahead of Aaron Seton.
There were no major troubles in what was the only co-driver session scheduled at a Repco Supercars event before the Bathurst 1000 in October, although a ride day on Monday at Sandown will provide another opportunity to build mileage.
Teams including the Shell V-Power Racing Team will hold a test day prior to The Great Race.
Action at Sandown continues tomorrow, with a second practice session for the primary drivers begins at 10:20am ahead of Race 24 qualifying at 12:50pm and the main event at 4:45pm AEST.
