Victorian Supercars teams enjoyed a final systems check ahead of this year’s Repco Bathurst 1000 at Winton Motor Raceway.
In contrast to recent weather down south, it was sunny at the rural circuit providing the perfect opportunity for co-drivers to gain extra mileage ahead of the holy grail of Australian motorsport.
Tickford Racing, Brad Jones Racing, Walkinshaw Andretti United, Grove Racing, Blanchard Team Racing and Wildcard entry Matt Chahda Motorsport all completed a full-day of testing.
The day is crucial for not only drivers, but for pit crews as this test enables the personnel to practice brake disc, tyre and driver changes ahead of The Great Race.
Drivers further increased their mileage after only previously completing a practice session at Sandown and potentially participating in prior testing sessions.
Last weekend it was confirmed the field for next month’s Repco Bathurst 1000 as completed after it was announced international Porsche driver Jaxon Evans will partner Brad Jones Racing driver Jack Smith in the SCT Logistics Holden ZB Commodore.
Evans won the Porsche Carrera Cup title in 2018 and has since gone on to enjoy a successful career overseas racing in various events for the German manufacturer including the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans.
“I’m really excited for the opportunity to make my Bathurst 1000 debut,” said Evans.
“I’m looking forward to teaming up with Jack at BJR SCT Logistics Racing. I’m pinching yself at the moment, it’s like a dream come true and we’ve got some work to do.
“Jack and I raced together in karts at one stage, at the end of our careers, so it’s cool to re-link in Supercars, the pinnacle of Australian motorsport.
“It’s been great so far, he’s a great guy, the team is good, so I’m really enjoying it.”
Queensland Supercars teams are scheduled to test next Wednesday, while Victorian-based squads Team18 and Erebus will conduct tests at Winton on the same day.
