The opening day of the Gen3 era closed with Coca-Cola Racing by Erebus driver Brodie Kostecki on top of the timesheets on the streets of Newcastle.
A 1m 11.406s placed Kostecki fastest, 0.055s faster than reigning Repco Supercars Championship winner Shane van Gisbergen in the lead Red Bull Ampol Racing Team Chevrolet Camaro as Chaz Mostert was the lead Mustang in third just 0.076s off the quickest time.
Nulon Racing’s Tim Slade was fourth immediately ahead of teammate James Golding as Nick Percat continued his improved form in sixth driving the NTI Mobil 1 Racing Mustang and Will Davison followed in the lead Shell V-Power Racing Team entry.
Cameron Waters finished the final practice session ninth for Monster Energy Racing Mustang as Anton De Pasquale rounded out the 10 in his Shell V-Power Racing Team Ford.
Just missing a top 10 berth was rookie Cameron Hill driving the Truck Assist Racing Camaro as he led the second Coca-Cola Racing by Erebus entry of Will Brown, the earlier pacesetter Andre Heimgartner in the R&J Batteries-supported Brad Jones Racing Camaro and teammate Jack Le Brocq.
Penrite Racing rookie Matt Payne was 15th ahead of teammate David Reynolds in 21st.
