Live lane for Supercars being considered for 2024

The Repco Supercars Championship pit lane may appear very different at each round in 2024 as the a ‘live pit lane’ concept is being considered.

‘Live pit lane’ is a concept where each round the order will shuffle in alignment with the current Team’s Championship standings rather than remaining the same for the entire season.

Due to it winning last year’s Teams’ Championship, Red Bull Ampol Racing occupy the first two pit garages for the entire 2023 season.

Reported on Tuesday by News Limited the idea of a ‘live pit lane’ was put forward at the last Supercars Commission meeting where it received ‘unanimous’ support.

If approved, the Teams’ Championship will decide the pit lane order for each round of the 2024 season.

The four car entries from Tickford Racing and Brad Jones Racing will be split according to the Teams’ Championship standings, while Blanchard Racing Team will score double points to equalise its status due to entering a sole Ford Mustang.

“It is something that has come up as an action item for the commission to look into,” a Supercars spokesperson said.

“There is a tonne of logistical operations involved in pit lane set-up for teams that needs to be considered before this goes any further, but we are happy to look into it.

“We’re always looking for new ways to improve the racing experience for fans and drivers.

“The commission will be conducting a thorough review of the proposed concept in the coming months, with a final decision expected to be announced ahead of the 2024 season.”

If this format was to be enacted in Perth, Coca-Cola by Erebus hold the first two garages followed by Red Bull Ampol Racing, Brad Jones Racing, Walkinshaw Andretti United and Penrite Racing.

The next round of the Repco Supercars Championship will race at Carco.com.au Raceway in Wanneroo, Perth on April 28-30.
