A 90-minute practice session opened the Repco Supercars Championship’s annual trip to Perth, with David Reynolds taking the early honours.
Reynolds edged the drivers in a last gasp dash at the close of the practice session driving his Penrite Racing Ford Mustang to a 54.528s to head Todd Hazelwood by 0.034s.
Championship leader Brodie Kostecki was a further 0.116s off the pace driving the Coca-Cola Racing by Erebus Chevrolet Camaro from Shell V-Power Racing Team’s Anton De Pasquale in a return to form and Mark Winterbottom in the DEWALT Racing entry celebrating race 600 tomorrow.
Nulon Racing’s James Golding led Andre Heimgartner in the R&J Batteries Brad Jones Racing Camaro, the Optus Mobil 1 Racing Mustang of Chaz Mostert, rookie Matt Payne in the second Penrite Racing entry and James Courtney for Snowy River Racing.
There were a couple of incidents including Macauley Jones, Jack Smith and Cameron Hill all going off track at one stage during the session.
Also a red flag was displayed to move a timing beam and Kostecki was delayed at the start of the session.
Title contenders Shane van Gisbergen and Cameron Waters feature down the field where some work will need to be done overnight.
One driver to impress was Jack Le Brocq for Truck Assist Racing as he aims to continue his strong and consistent start to the season, only being bumped out of the top 10 at the end.
Qualifying and race action begins tomorrow at 11:10am AWST or 1:10pm AEST.
