Brodie Kostecki takes victory despite steering problem

Repco Supercars Championship leader Brodie Kostecki has led from start to finish in Race 21 to take victory despite concerns surrounding the steering during the race in his Coca-Cola by Erebus Chevrolet Camaro.

Thomas Randle starting from pole in his Castrol Racing Ford Mustang was unable to hold Kostecki out at Turn 2, but still held onto second at the end as Chaz Mostert rounded out the podium after a late-race charge in the Mobil 1 Optus Racing entry.

There was chaos once again at the opening lap, but this time it was at Turn 6 when Jack Le Brocq locked up in the Truck Assist Racing Chevrolet Camaro leading to contact with Monster Energy Racing’s Cameron Waters and Will Davison in the Shell V-Power Racing Mustang.

Le Brocq was penalised for his part in the incident and Davison’s door also flapped open before he was forced to pit.

Kostecki was unable to shake Randle for much of the race as Shane van Gisbergen led the pursuers in his Red Bull Ampol Racing Camaro comprising the two Penrite Racing Mustangs of Matt Payne and David Reynolds, who was first to pit on lap 6.

After the stops, Reynolds made the biggest leap to undercut both teammate Payne and van Gisbergen to sit third. The three-time Supercars champion attempted to take the final podium slot, however dropped off towards the conclusion.

Mostert began his charge and was in the top five by demoting Payne, before attacking van Gisbergen successfully and passing Reynolds on the final lap for third.

Kostecki apart from his steering troubles was flawless to lead Randle by 1.068s across the line from Mostert, Reynolds, van Gisbergen, Payne, Anton De Pasquale, Bryce Fullwood, Broc Feeney and Will Brown.

Race 22 of the Repco Supercars Championship at Shell V-Power Motorsport Park is set to commence at 3:50pm ACST or 4:20pm AEST.
