Red Bull Ampol Racing continue dominance in Race 2 qualifying

As has been the narrative across the weekend so far, Red Bull Ampol Racing has continued to top the timesheets as Broc Feeney led teammate Will Brown in qualifying for Race 2 at the Thrifty Bathurst 500.

Feeney set his time with more than five minutes remaining at a 2m 05.331s before jumping out of his Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.

New teammate Brown was 0.067s off the pace, with Chaz Mostert taking third for Mobil 1 Optus Racing as the lead Ford Mustang a further 0.034s behind.

In a turn of fortune for the Shell V-Power Racing Team, Anton De Pasquale was fourth ahead of David Reynolds after he encountered a dropped cylinder, which was rectified just in time for the TRADIE Racing driver to set a time.

Nulon PremiAir Racing’s James Golding was sixth from the Castrol Racing Ford Mustang of Thomas Randle, Jack Le Brocq’s Erebus Motorsport Camaro, the second Shell V-Power Racing Team Mustang of Will Davison and Nick Percat for Matt Stone Racing.

Rookie Ryan Wood just missed a maiden Top 10 Shootout berth by 0.010s as Todd Hazelwood, Matt Payne, Cameron Hill and Richie Stanaway also failed to make the one-lap dash. Steering problems for Hill prevented a repeated Top 10 Shootout appearance.

Cameron Waters failed to improve on yesterday’s performance to place 18th as Brad Jones Racing duo Andre Heimgartner and Bryce Fullwood are placed behind.

There was a wild ride for Mark Winterbottom across the top and a lock up for Davison were the only other dramas to occur.

Next up on the schedule for the Repco Supercars Championship is the Top 10 Shootout at 12:05pm AEDT.
