Reigning Repco Supercars Championship winner Brodie Kostecki will return to the series at Taupo after missing the opening two rounds of the season.
Kostecki was replaced by Todd Hazelwood at Bathurst and Albert Park after it was confirmed he had stepped away from the sport prior to the commencement of the season.
It’s been a tumultuous off-season for Erebus Motorsport after Kostecki stepped away and multiple sponsors led by naming rights sponsor Coca-Cola left the team.
Jack Le Brocq made the move from Matt Stone Racing to Erebus Motorsport this season and will be joined by Kostecki for the first time in New Zealand.
“I’m excited to be back behind the wheel again,” said the reigning champion.
“I needed some time away to prioritise my health.
“I’m grateful for the support, privacy and time Betty, Barry and the team have given me.”
Erebus Motorsport CEO Barry Ryan said Kostecki’s return will boost the squad ahead of the Repco Supercars Championship’s first visit to Taupo and New Zealand’s return to the calendar after not featuring last year.
“On behalf of Betty and the team, we are pleased Brodie is ready to drive again,” said Ryan.
“Having Brodie back to work alongside Jack as he becomes more familiar with our cars will be a positive for our entire team.
“A big thanks to Todd; he performed brilliantly under considerable pressure and scrutiny, so hats off to him. We look forward to having him at the test day this week and in the seat for the enduros later in the year.”
The Repco Supercars Championship continues at Taupo on April 19-21.
