On the 30th anniversary of star racing driver Ayrton Senna’s death, Netflix has released the first trailer of a miniseries on the legendary Brazilian ace.
Set to be released later this year, the show simply titled Senna will be composed of six episodes as the trailer beautiful encapsulates key parts of his life as part of his dramatic win at his home Grand Prix during the 1991 season.
Flashes featured throughout the trailer include from his youth, the move to England then his subsequent career in Formula 1 starting with his famous drive at Monaco with Toleman followed by Lotus and McLaren where he won three World Drivers’ Championships.
In between these glimpses the tribulations he faced during the 1991 Brazilian Grand Prix as the gearbox broke and was stuck in one gear leading to Senna cramping in pain as the relief of finally winning his home Grand Prix was captured emotionally by the live television broadcast.
Senna will be portrayed by Gabriel Leone as Matt Mella will play fierce rival Alain Prost and Pamela Tome is Senna’s girlfriend Xuxa, who was a television personality in Brazil.
Beginning with his move to England to race karts then Formula Ford, the miniseries will cover all of the drama from Senna’s Formula 1 career as his star rose to still be acknowledged as one of the best drivers to race at the top level of motorsport.
Sadly, Senna didn’t get the opportunity to add to his three titles after crashing at Imola during 1994 San Marino Grand Prix leading to his death and outpouring of grief worldwide, but particularly in Brazil where he was to a hero to many when most of the population was in poverty.
