Pole for James Golding in Darwin

A superb lap from Nulon PremiAir Racing’s James Golding has converted his fastest time in qualifying yesterday to pole position for the Repco Supercars Championship Race 11 at Hidden Valley Raceway this afternoon.

It marks Golding’s and the team’s maiden pole position after setting a 1m 06.230s to defeat Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Broc Feeney by 0.078s in a thrilling Top 10 Shootout.

Conditions proved slippery for the early contenders as Andre Heimgartner was the first to hit the circuit and set a 2m 06.767s as the benchmark to start 10th.

Golding’s teammate Tim Slade will start alongside Heingartner as Cam Waters is eighth following a scruffy lap, with Turn 1 being a deciding factor during the session as drivers pushed the braking capabilities to the limit.

Starting alongside the Monster Castrol Racing Mustang will be the TRADIE Racing Camaro of David Reynolds on a 1m 06.652s.

Will Brown made a mistake at Turn 1, which ended up costing the championship leader a berth on the front two rows to line up sixth. Anton De Pasquale was another deep into Turn 1, but lost more time when he exited the final corner on the dirt to be fifth.

Bendix Racing’s Nick Percat and Mark Winterbottom in the DEWALT Racing Camaro round out the second row as Broc Feeney shares the head of the field with Golding.

Race 11 in Darwin is set to begin at 3:10pm ACST/3:40pm AEST/5:40pm NZST.
