Continuing his pacesetting form from practice, Cam Waters has sealed pole position for Race 13 of the Repco Supercars Championship in Townsville.
Waters set provisional pole before converting it into the prime spot in the Top 10 Shootout by setting a 1m 13.723s to eclipse Chaz Mostert’s previous benchmark by 0.312s.
The Mobil 1 Optus Racing’s Mostert moved two spots in the Shootout as the top four positions on the grid are filled by Ford Mustangs.
Making up the second row are Thomas Randle and Shell V-Power Racing Team’s Will Davison as the squad continues its resurgence.
First Chevrolet was Jack Le Brocq in fifth, who shares the third row with Andre Heimgartner in the R&J Batteries Racing Camaro.
Anton De Pasquale will start seventh alongside title contender Broc Feeney in the lead Red Bull Ampol Racing entry.
Two drivers to have problems during their laps round out the top 10 as Matt Payne lost grip entering Turn 7 for Penrite Racing, while a massive lock up entering Turn 2 delayed Bryce Fullwood in the Middy’s Racing Camaro.
Will Brown was the major omission from the Shootout, qualifying 13th behind Brodie Kostecki and James Golding.
Team 18 also struggled as Mark Winterbottom led teammate David Reynolds in 20th and 21st, respectively.
The opening 250km event of the weekend begins at 2:40pm AEST.
