Will Brown takes pole for the Penrite Oil Sandown 500

Will Brown has completed a challenging day in terms of conditions on top after taking pole for the Penrite Oil Sandown 500 after setting the fastest time in the Top 10 Shootout.

Brown was fifth out in the shootout and set a 1m 10.254s lap in the mixed conditions, pipping Anton De Pasquale, who was first to set a time on a 1m 10.354s.

It proved an interesting session as the fast drivers from qualifying failed to replicate this in their Top 10 Shootout runs. Broc Feeney was the provisional polesitter entering the shootout, but will start fifth alongside Chaz Mostert after he was second in the lead-in session.

Monster Castrol Racing’s Cam Waters will share the front-row with Brown as De Pasquale took third and will feature alongside Erebus Motorsport’s Brodie Kostecki.

Behind Feeney and Mostert is the first Penrite Racing Mustang of Richie Stanaway as his New Zealand contemporary Andre Heimgartner lines up eighth in the R&J Batteries Racing Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.

Another all-Kiwi row completed the top 10 featuring Penrite Racing’s Matt Payne and rookie Ryan Wood after he had a wild moment through the back esses ending in the Turn 9 gravel trap. Wood managed to exit, but lost significant time.

The traditional warm up occurs at 9:55am AEST ahead of the Penrite Oil Sandown 500 at 2:05pm AEST.
