Cam Waters seals pole on the Gold Coast

Pole position has once again been decided in favour of Monster Castrol Racing’s Cam Waters.

Waters will share the front row alongside Penrite Racing’s Richie Stanaway, but for the Tickford Racing driver it was a close shave as he grazed the outside wall at Turn 11 on his hot lap of 1m 11.058s.

Brown will start 11th making it the best opportunity for Waters to claw back points as it is for Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Broc Feeney and Chaz Mostert in the Mobil 1 Optus Racing Mustang from the second row.

Reigning champion Brodie Kostecki had his time deleted due to a kerb strike and left James Courtney to set the benchmark at a 1m 11.932s.

David Reynolds was unable to better it, but James Golding was 0.3s clear and Matt Payne was on target until spearing down the Turn 11 escape road.

Feeney set the pace and Randle was up next to only fall short, but Waters was up next and set a blistering time.

Mostert was unable to improve Waters’ time and Stanaway was likewise, just 0.117s off.

The Repco Supercars Championship Race 21 begins at 3:15pm AEST.
