Qualifying ends early after destructive Turn 8 crash

Championship leader Will Brown currently leads qualifying after a destructive session on Friday afternoon of the VAILO Adelaide 500.

The story was not with the Repco Supercars Championship leader however after three drivers were victims of Turn 8.

Richie Stanaway was first in the Penrite Racing to hit the wall, but he was able to return to the pits and the team set about repairing the Ford Mustang to continue the session.

Next was Cam Hill in a much harder and dramatic incident for the SP Tools Racing Camaro. A much harder hit and not helped by the wall moving when Stanaway hit it, Hill’s Camaro crossed the track damaging all three corners.

TRADIE Beer Racing’s David Reynolds was next on the scene, hooting the wall and sliding to end up perched on top of Hill’s Camaro.

After a significant delay, qualifying was declared 30 minutes post-stoppage leaving Brown on provisional pole from Monster Castrol Racing’s Cameron Waters.

Waters’ teammate Thomas Randle was third from Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Broc Feeney and Snowy River Racing veteran James Courtney.

Matt Payne was sixth for Penrite Racing as Aaron Love was the first of many drivers to score their first Top 10 Shootout berth.

Jaxon Evans and Macauley Jones also notched up their first appearance as Bryce Fullwood completed the top 10.

Those to miss included Brodie Kostecki, Andre Heimgartner, Will Davison, Anton De Pasquale, Ryan Wood and Chaz Mostert in 22nd.

Both teams will attempt to fix the damage ahead of the third practice session for the Repco Supercars Championship at 10:00am local time.
