There has been plenty of news during the Christmas and New Year period announced by the Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival organisers for the 2026 event on February 28-March 1.
First of all, Formula 1 history will again feature at the AMF courtesy of James Hunt’s Hesketh 308 making an appearance.
Hunt was backed by Lord Alexander Hesketh during the early stages of his Formula 1 career, with both combining to form a non-traditional team leading to minor success.
Taking victory at the 1974 International Trophy held at Silverstone, Hunt also took podiums at Swedish, Austrian and United States Grand Prix, with a modified 308 also winning the 1975 Dutch Grand Prix.
Launching the career of designer Harvey Postlethwaite, the 308 was powered by the famous Cosworth DFV V8 and has since become one of the most successful chassis on the historic Grand Prix circuit.
The 308 will join the likes of Arrows, Jaguar, Ferrari and Benetton in the Formula 1 category where it will be driven by James Hagan.
Now a South Australian local, Cadillac Formula 1 driver Valterri Bottas has been a fixture of the AMF recently and will get behind the wheel of a Ferrari 156/85 once driven by Stefan Johansson during the 1985 season.
Bottas will also drive a V8-powered by-block Holden HQ Monaro as well, while is scheduled to meet fans in the Marriott Grand Marquee.
