A surprise result in qualifying for the opening race of the Repco Supercars Championship season as Team Blanchard Racing has locked out the front-row and Ford secured the top four positions.
James Golding was the only driver to drop into the 1m 27s bracket in the second stage of qualifying to pip teammate Aaron Cameron by 0.060s to score a second Supercars pole after Darwin in 2024.
Cameron repeated his best qualifying performance from Adelaide last year.
Matt Payne was third in his Penrite Racing Ford Mustang ahead of the lead Red Bull Ampol Racing example of Broc Feeney.
First Chevrolet was from the homologation partner, with Anton De Pasquale putting his Dewalt Racing Camaro in fifth and will share the third row alongside rookie Zach Bates for Bendix Racing.
Cam Waters will lead Tickford Racing’s chances from seventh from Will Brown in the second Red Bull Ampol Racing Mustang.
The final row of the top 10 features Monster Castrol Racing’s Thomas Randle and R&J Batteries Racing driver André Heimgartner in the first of the new Toyota Supra GRs.
Just missing top 10 were Brodie Kostecki, David Reynolds, rookies Jayden Ojeda and Jackson Walls, Ryan Wood, Cooper Murray and Kai Allen, who was fastest in the sole practice session.
Reigning champion Chaz Mostert will start 20th, just behind fellow Toyota driver Cam Hill.
The opening race of the season will commence at 7:50pm AEDT at a distance of 100km.
