Tickford locks away Jake Kostecki, replaces Jack Le Brocq

Jake Kostecki will make the switch from Matt Stone Racing to Victorian-based Tickford Racing for the 2022 Repco Supercars Championship.

The 21-year-old replaces Jack Le Brocq at the end of this year following the team’s confirmation it has split with the driver after two seasons

Debuting during the 2019 Pirtek Enduro Cup partnering cousin Brodie in a family-run Wildcard, Kostecki entered the Repco Supercars Championship last year as part of Matt Stone Racing’s SuperLite program.

This year marked Kostecki’s first full season where he is currently placed 20th in the standings, finishing a best of fifth at Hidden Valley Raceway.

“I’m obviously really excited to be joining Tickford Racing next season,” Kostecki said.

“It’s a team that has a lot of heritage and has had a lot of success in the past, so I’m really thankful for the opportunity Tim (Edwards) and the team have given me, and I’m really looking forward to getting together with them and getting to work.”

Tickford Racing CEO and Team Principal Tim Edwards is eager to watch Kostecki develop within the operation.

“We’re very pleased to welcome Jake to the team in 2022,” Edwards said.

“For such a young driver he has a lot of experience in this style of car, and being just 21-years-old he has a lot of room to grow.

“He’s part of that next generation of young drivers, and we have a very good track record for developing young guys like him into successful racers in this category. We see a great opportunity to develop Jake into a front runner in the championship and are looking forward to getting him in the car.”

Le Brocq meanwhile leaves Tickford Racing after joining the team from Tekno Autosports at the end of 2019, taking his first victory at Sydney Motorsport Park last year.

“I want to thank Tickford for the opportunity to work with them these last two years,” Le Brocq said. “We’ve had some success together and I have learned a lot. I look forward to finishing off the season with them strongly, and moving to new opportunities in 2022.”

Kostecki is the third Tickford Racing driver to be confirmed for 2022 following James Courtney and Thomas Randle. It is believed Cameron Waters will re-sign with the team.
