A historic bonanza this weekend at the Island

Arguably Australia’s premier historic event, the Phillip Island Classic Festival of Motorsport is on this weekend and once again an eclectic mix of cars are featured.

Everything from former Formula 1 beasts to history defining touring cars to some of the oldest metal racing in the world feature through a more than 400 entries. Some of these include many powered by Repco engines, partnering the famous Brabham chassis designed by Ron Tauranac.

Cars of interest include Guido Belgiorno-Nettis in a 1985 Ferrari 156/85 Formula 1, former Supercars driver Jonathon Webb driving his father Steve’s ex-Colin Bond Ford Sierra RS500 Group A, Tony Alford in the GIO Nissan Skyline GT-R previously driven by Mark Gibbs, the VY Commodore Larry Perkins entered his last Bathurst 1000 in piloted by the man himself and many more.

Also, a wide variety of makes and models are featured in Group N where the likes of Holden Torana GTR XU-1s take on a mixture of Ford Falcon GT-HOs, Mustangs, Chevrolet Camaros, pesky Mazda RX2s, Chrysler Charger R/Ts, plus much, much more.

Group S and a large mixture of open-wheelers make sure every motorsport fan has their appetite whetted.
