Andre Heimgartner returns to the winners circle in Tasmania

Andre Heimgartner completed a clean-sweep for Toyota on Saturday down in Tasmania by taking his first victory in two years in Race 15.

It was then New Zealander’s third Repco Supercars Championship win and Brad Jones Racing’s maiden Toyota success.

Race 15 was the 100th to be hosted at Symmons Plains as Heimgartner took the win in the R&J Batteries Racing Toyota GR Supra after fending off a late challenge from Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Broc Feeney.

Heimgartner was forced to defend from Feeney during the early stages, but this was halted when the race entered a rhythm after the opening 10 laps.

Approaching the pit stops, Feeney’s Mustang drew closer to Heimgartner as both led Penrite Racing’s Matt Payne.

Lap 23 provided what may be a defining moment of the title when Brodie Kostecki’s Shell V-Power Racing Team Mustang was hit from behind by the Snowy River Racing Camaro of David Reynolds leading to heavy damage for the Ford driver on his way to 24th.

A 15-second penalty was handed to Reynolds and also to Race 14 winner Chaz Mostert following contact with Jayden Ojeda.

Heimgartner emerged from the pit stops in the lead despite the best efforts of Feeney and Payne as he achieved his first victory since Taupo 2024.

Payne was under threat from Anton De Pasquale for the final podium slot, but the New Zealander held on.

The second Red Bull Ampol Racing Mustang of Will Brown was behind in fifth ahead of a charging Kai Allen from 17th on the grid, Monster Castrol Racing’s Cam Waters, the Mobil 1 Truck Assist Racing Supra of Ryan Wood, Cam Hill for Brad Jones Racing and Thomas Randle.

Qualifying for Sunday’s Repco Supercars Championship action to conclude the Tasmania Super440 begins at 11:35am AEST.
