Anton De Pasquale has taken the first pole for Chevrolet homologation partner Team 18 of the season ahead of Race 2 at the Dunlop Sydney 500.
The Dewalt Racing Camaro will start from the prime position after a scorching 1m 28.018s and bounces back form for Chevrolet after a Ford dominance in last night’s season opener.
De Pasquale’s former teammate Brodie Kostecki will line-up alongside to lead the Ford attack for the Shell V-Power Racing Team.
Another Ford is next on the grid, with Matt Payne of Penrite Racing sharing the second row alongside fellow New Zealander Ryan Wood in the best showing of the Toyota Supra so far.
Following his maiden podium in the opening race of the season, Aaron Cameron for Liqui Moly Blahst Racing starts fifth side-by-side with Monster Castrol Racing’s Cam Waters.
Thomas Randle will be behind his teammate in seventh from rookie Zach Bates for Bendix Racing, while Broc Feeney is ninth in the Red Bull Ampol Racing Mustang from Blanchard Racing Team’s James Golding, who was on pole for Race 1.
Rain played havoc with both qualifying and the Top 10 Shootout, with the earlier session provided some surprises including the early elimination of Chaz Mostert.
The reigning champion will start 22nd as David Reynolds, Kai Allen, Will Brown, Andre Heimgartner, Jayden Ojeda, Cam Hill, Rylan Gray and Declan Fraser were eliminated in the second phase of qualifying.
Race 2 of the Repco Supercars Championship is due to begin at 7:35pm AEDT.
