Anton De Pasquale leads the way after opening Sandown session

DEWALT Racing’s Anton De Pasquale has ended the opening session on top of the timesheets at the Penrite Oil Sandown 500.

Setting a 1m 08.963s, De Pasquale set the pace in the session by just 0.054s ahead of Mobil 1 Optus Racing’s Chaz Mostert, while his Team 18 stablemate David Reynolds was third in the TRADIE Energy Racing entry.

Brodie Kostecki was fourth for the Shell V-Power Racing Team as soon-to-be full-time retiree James Courtney rounded out the top five for Snowy River Racing.

Cam Hill put the Sherrin Rentals-backed Matt Stone Racing Camaro sixth ahead of Shell V-Power Racing Team’s second Mustang in Will Davison, while rookie Cooper Murray was eighth for Erebus Motorsport.

Monster Castrol Racing duo Cam Waters and Thomas Randle completed the top 10, with just three finalists placing inside.

Will Brown led those drivers in the Finals race still, but outside the top 10 in 11th as Matt Payne was a position behind and Ryan Wood was 16th.

Kai Allen was the last of those finalists in 19th.

Practice for the Repco Supercars Championship rounds out Friday’s action at the Penrite Oil Sandown 500 at 3:55pm AEDT.
