Previous Australian Grand Prix winner Thierry Boutsen will get a taste of a former rival at the 2025 Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival.
The Belgian started 163 Grands Prix in a career spanning a decade starting in 1983 with Arrows before joining Benetton then Williams, Ligier and concluding his career with a guest slot at Jordan in 1993.
Boutsen won the rain soaked 1989 Australian Grand Prix for Williams and will drive the Benetton B190 Ford used by Nelson Piquet to take victory the next season.
This will mark the first time an Australian Grand Prix winning from the Adelaide-era to drive victorious chassis from the same timeline at the event.
Despite not racing the Rory Byrne and John Barnard designed B190, Boutsen was part of the Benetton line-up for two seasons starting in 1987 where he emerged as a fast and reliable driver.
Finishing third in Adelaide in 1987, this was followed by fourth in the World Drivers’ Championship the next season and Boutsen was ranked the highest naturally aspirated entry after scoring five podiums.
This performance led to Frank Williams brokering a deal for Boutsen to join his team for the 1989 season to replace the Ferrari-bound Nigel Mansell.
Close to 40 years since he last raced a Benetton, Boutsen will sample the 1990 Asutralian Grand Prix winner at the Repco Adelaide Motorsport Festival on March 8-9.
