Australia’s special version of the WRX

Subaru Australia celebrated the 10th anniversary of the iconic WRX being on sale down under by releasing the WRP10.

WRP10 standing for World Rally Pirelli 10th Anniversary, this special WRX came with some goodies straight from the STI catalogue.

Launched in 2005, 10 years after Colin McRae also took the World Rally Championship, the WRP10 also included long-time tyre partner Pirelli as well due to its heavy involvement in the Subaru program.

At the time, Subaru was dominating the Australian Rally Championship, but was about to pull out to focus on tarmac events including Targa Tasmania and Bathurst 12 Hour.

Fitting in between the WRX and the enhanced STI, the WRP10 was limited to 200 all in a distinctive coat of Crystal Grey.

Fitted to the WRP10 was an STI ECU and muffler lifting the 2.0-litre turbocharged flat-four engine by 7kW and 2Nm (175kW/302Nm) was paired with 15mm lower spring and a carbon fibre strut brace.

Modifications to the body were limited to badges, but Rays Engineering supplied the alloy rims wrapped in Pirelli rubber, of course.

Although the modifications were limited, it provides  a small snapshot of Subaru Australia’s history.
