Broc Feeney completes pole sweep at Albert Park

It was again a qualifying masterclass by Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Broc Feeney as he completed the pole position sweep for the MSS Security Melbourne SuperSprint at Albert Park.

Feeney lowered the qualifying record in the first 12-minute session to a 1m 46.136s as he held a 0.103s margin back to teammate Will Brown.

Both will be aiming to take advantage in this evening’s third race following another qualifying faux pas by Monster Castrol Racing and Cam Waters, who will start from 19th.

Mustangs were quick in the session led by Penrite Racing’s Matt Payne in third from the Bendix Racing Camaro of Nick Percat and Supercars rookie Cooper Murray continued his impressive form in fifth.

Will Davison for Shell V-Power Racing Team followed in sixth ahead of PremiAir Nulon Racing’s James Golding, race winner from Friday Cameron Hill, Mobil 1 Truck Assist Racing driver Ryan Wood and Brodie Kostecki completed the top 10.

There was controversy in the second qualifying session as Brown impeded Chaz Mostert late in the session forcing the latter to start from 24th.

Mostert was out of sync with the rest of the field due to mistakes in his first two runs on green tyres, but was set to significantly improved based on his sector times for the lap.

Feeney again led the way on a 1m 46.238s from Hill by 0.120s, with Murray again proving fast in third ahead of Richie Stanaway and Waters.

Payne and teammate Kai Allen followed in the Penrite Racing Mustangs from Bryce Fullwood in the lead Brad Jones Racing Camaro, with Dewalt Racing’s Anton De Pasquale leading David Reynolds for TRADIE Energy Racing completing the top 10.

The penultimate race of the MSS Security Melbourne SuperSprint at Albert Park is scheduled for 5:35pm AEDT this evening.
