Broc Feeney scores opening pair of poles at Albert Park

Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Broc Feeney has achieved the opening two pole positions at the MSS Melbourne SuperSprint.

For Race 4 later in the schedule, it’s an all-Red Bull Ampol Racing front-row as Feeney pipped teammate Brown to the tune of 0.016s.

Cam Hill is set to start third for Matt Stone Racing alongside former teammate Jack Le Brocq for Erebus Motorsport to round out the top four for Chevrolet.

Brodie Kostecki was the first Ford Mustang in fifth for Shell V-Power Racing Team ahead of Penrite Racing’s Matt Payne and PremiAir Nulon Racing’s Richie Stanaway.

R&J Batteries Racing driver André Heimgartner, James Golding and Dewalt Racing’s Anton De Pasquale completed the top 10.

It was a mixed session for Kostecki after he caused a red flag when he was stuck in the Turn 1 gravel trap, but he recovered for what proved to be a one lap dash.

A mistake from championship leader Cam Waters leaves him starting from 22nd in the Monster Castrol Racing Mustang after running wide at Turn 8. Teammate Thomas Randle will start 21st.

Feeney doubled up in Race 5 Qualifying, but he will not start alongside his title rival and teammate.

Instead, Matt Stone Racing duo Hill and Nick Percat proved quick to round out the top three, with Heimgartner also finishing ahead of Brown.

Waters will start sixth from Stanaway, Le Brocq, Kostecki and the Mobil 1 Truck Assist Racing Mustang of Ryan Wood to complete the top 10.

Debutant Aaron Cameron clipped the wall in the second session and ended it 22nd.

The opening race of the weekend is at 5:45pm AEDT.
