Brodie Kostecki and Jarrad Filsell dominate Sandown Eseries enduro

In a crushing display, Brodie Kostecki and Jarrad Filsell took victory in the latest round of the Cash Converters Supercars Eseries held at Sandown Raceway.

Qualifying on pole, the Erebus Motorsport pair led from start-to-finish in the 41 lap enduro around the historic circuit consolidating Kostecki’s lead in the All Stars competition, with Filsell becoming the first non-Walkinshaw Andretti United driver to lead the Pro Series since the opening round of 2019.

It was disaster for reigning Pro Series winner Dayne Warren as co-driver Jayden Ojeda spun on the opening lap, before another on the penultimate circuit dropped the Walkinshaw Andretti United team to the back of the field.

Finishing behind the Erebus pair were Brad Jones Racing entry Andre Heimgartner and Jake Burton, while Jake Kostecki took the final step on the podium alongside Jordan Caruso for Tickford Racing.

Kostecki demonstrated his dominance early to move into a commanding lead as Ojeda struck trouble after contact from Tickford Racing’s Zak Best among others through Turns 2, 3 and 4.

Heimgartner was the first of the leaders to pit on lap 17, handing over to Burton as the former Toyota 86 driver maintained second for the race’s duration.

Ojeda did likewise to Warren a lap later and thus the WAU Pro Series driver charged through to sixth before his collision with Jackson Souslin-Harlow dropped the entry out of contention.

Kostecki was last to pit, enjoying a margin of more than 50s when he handed to Filsell, who survived a late-race safety car to take a comfortable victory.

Repco duo Jordan Boys and Corey Shepherd started 10th, but were caught up in the opening race fracas leading to 16th at the finish.

The Cash Converters Supercars Eseries continues with the Fan’s Choice round next Wednesday.
