Brodie Kostecki and Ryan Wood share Saturday poles at Taupo

Brodie Kostecki and Ryan Wood will start Saturday’s pair of race from pole after qualifying was held ahead of the action at Taupo.

It was a dominant display from Ford in the opening session after locking out the first two rows for the opening 120km encounter.

Kostecki set a 1m 26.896s to lead Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Broc Feeney by 0.136s, while New Zealander Matt Payne placed his Penrite Racing entry third alongside Will Brown.

First non-Ford was the Mobil 1 Truck Assist Racing Toyota GR Supra of Wood ahead of Penrite Racing’s Kai Allen, reigning champion Chaz Mostert, Monster Castrol Racing’s Tom Randle, Andre Heimgartner in the R&J Batteries Racing entry ad James Golding finished the top 10 for the Blanchard Racing Team.

This left Jack Le Brocq the leading Chevrolet runner in 11th for Matt Stone Racing, while Cam Waters, Anton De Pasquale, David Reynolds and Rylan Gray were outside the top 10.

Wood went better in the second to achieve the Toyota Supra’s first Repco Supercars Championship pole by 0.016s ahead of Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Brown and Feeney.

Kostecki will start fourth ahead of Golding, Mostert, a recovering De Pasquale, Payne, Allen and Waters.

Le Brocq was again 11th from Randle and Reynolds, while Heimgartner dropped outside the top 10.

Race 8 of the Repco Supercars Championship is due to commence at 12:20pm NZST/10:20am AEST, ahead of the 200km finale to end Saturday’s action from 3:30pm NZST/1:30pm AEST.
