Brodie Kostecki ends opening day fastest

Repco Supercars Championship leader Brodie Kostecki has set the fastest time in the final practice session on Friday of the Sandown 500.

Kostecki in his Coca-Cola Racing by Erebus Chevrolet Camaro finished 0.0003 ahead of Broc Feeney in the Red Bull Ampol Racing entry with a 1m 08.7125s.

The top eight at the end of the third practice session were all Chevrolets as Will Brown in the second Coca-Cola Racing by Erebus Camaro, the Truck Assist Racing entry of Jack Le Brocq, Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Shane van Gisbergen, Brad Jones Racing duo Andre Heimgartner and Macauley Jones, as Mark Winterbottom rounded out the top runners.

Cameron Waters led the Ford charge again in ninth driving the Monster Energy Racing and the Mobil 1 Optus Racing Mustang Chaz Mostert.

Teams attempted brake pad changes in the final session of the day, but for some it appeared a difficult process and maybe a talking point come race day as to how efficient this can be affected.

Outside the top 10 were Scott Pye, Tim Slade, David Reynolds, Will Davison, Thomas Randle and James Golding from 11th through to 16th.

Anton De Pasquale was another to be down the order in 17th as Todd Hazelwood bunkered the Blanchard Racing Team Ford Mustang to be 21st.

Tomorrow’s Repco Supercars Championship action begins with another practice session at 10:45am AEST, qualifying at 1:40pm AEST and finally the Top 10 Shootout at 5:20pm AEST.
