Brodie Kostecki is $50,000 richer after Adelaide Friday success

Brodie Kostecki has taken the $50,000 prize for winning the opening race of the bp Adelaide Grand Final.

The conditions proved treacherous throughout due to constant rain leading to the race being shortened when Thomas Randle made heavy contact with the concrete at Turn 8.

A red flag came out as a result and the race was called with just 10 laps remaining while Kostecki was leading.

The 2023 Repco Supercars Championship winner had mastered the conditions up to that point having come from fourth on the grid to lead during the early stages.

Kostecki led from the first of the Finalists in Mobil 1 Optus Racing’s Chaz Mostert and his teammate Ryan Wood, who overtook Red Bull Racing’s Broc Feeney during the closing stages.

Next of the Finalists was Kai Allen in sixth for Penrite Racing and Will Brown was the last of the contenders in 10th after being spun by Randle on the opening lap.

It was a frantic battle at the start of the race due to the door-banging between Feeney and Mostert through the opening sector.

A rare mistake from Feeney at Turn 4 gave Mostert and Kostecki the upper hand on lap 2.

Cam Waters had started third, but began to slide down the field as Wood made short work, then contact sending Cooper Murray into a spin further delayed the Monster Castrol Racing driver.

Apart from the opening stint dramas, the race ran clean up until when the rain began to fall heavily leading to Randle making heavy contact with the outside concrete wall at Turn 8.

The safety car was required before the red flag was drawn to put a full stop on proceedings leading Kostecki to win the $50,000 prize from Mostert, Wood, Feeney, Waters, Allen, Payne, Andre Heimgartner, Brown and Anton De Pasquale.

Wildcard Austin Cindric guided the Repco Rewards Tickford Racing Mustang to 22nd.

Qualifying for Race 33 of the 2025 Repco Supercars Championship season at the bp Adelaide Grand Final is due to occur at 10:05am AEDT and 10:35am AEDT.
