Brodie Kostecki leads the way following practice at the Tasmanian SuperSprint

Coca-Cola Racing by Erebus driver Brodie Kostecki has led the way in both Repco Supercars Championship practice sessions this morning at Symmons Plains Raceway.

Cold conditions greeted the drivers in Tasmania as Kostecki set a 51.014s lap to top the opening session from Snowy River Racing’s James Courtney as the veteran was just 0.148s in arrears.

A late lap from Todd Hazelwood put the Blanchard Racing Team Ford Mustang in third from the lead Shell V-Power Racing entry of Will Davison and Cameron Waters for Monster Energy Racing rounded out the top five.

Will Brown in the second Coca-Cola Racing by Erebus Camaro was sixth ahead of championship leader Shane van Gisbergen for Red Bull Ampol Racing, DEWALT Racing’s Mark Winterbottom, Jack Smith in the SCT Racing Chevrolet and Broc Feeney.

Andre Heimgartner just missed the top 10 in 11th, with David Reynolds 13th, Anton De Pasquale 14th and Chaz Mostert 18th.

Traffic proved troublesome in second practice when Courtney encountered a weaving Reynolds at Turn 6 leading to a high speed off, while Waters also locked a brake at Turn 4 to be 18th.

Kostecki led the way on a 51.172s as Truck Assist Racing’s Jack Le Brocq just fell 0.019s shy on his final hot lap as Brown improved to third ahead of Castrol Racing driver Thomas Randle and Winterbottom.

Van Gisbergen was sixth from Nulon Racing’s James Golding, Feeney, Tim Slade and Hazelwood, with rookie Cameron Hill just falling short of the top 10 in the Truck Assist Racing Camaro.

Mostert improved to 12th as Heimgartner placed 15th ahead of Reynolds, Waters in 18th, Davison 22nd and De Pasquale 25th after a driveline failure.

Qualifying is up next at 12:55pm AEST.
