Brodie Kostecki leads the way in opening session in Townsville

Shell V-Power Racing Team’s Brodie Kostecki has led the way in the opening practice session at the Townsville 500.

It was Kostecki making the perfect start to his weekend in Townsville by setting a 1m 13.685s to finish the session 0.083s clear of Will Brown in the lead Red Bull Ampol Racing Mustang.

Anton De Pasquale upheld the Chevrolet honour for DEWALT Racing in third ahead of Penrite Racing’s Matt Payne, Broc Feeney in the second Red Bull Ampol  Racing entry and Cooper Murray in a strong performance for Erebus Motorsport was sixth.

Leading the next group was Monster Castrol Racing’s Cam Waters from Walkinshaw TWG Racing teammates Ryan Wood and Chaz Mostert, while James Golding completed the top 10 for the Blanchard Racing Team.

Behind the lead runners was rookie Jobe Stewart, Wildcard Ruben Goodall, Jayden Ojeda, David Reynolds, Kai Allen and Zach Bates.

The only major drama came when Jack Le Brocq crashed at the back of the circuit forcing an early finish to the session.

Qualifying for the opening race of the Townsville 500 this afternoon is due to begin at 12:45pm AEST.
