Brodie Kostecki sets blistering pace in Top 10 Shootout

Coca-Cola Racing by Erebus driver and Repco Supercars Championship leader Brodie Kostecki has scored pole position for tomorrow’s Bathurst 1000 after setting a blistering pace in the Top 10 Shootout.

Kostecki set the pace in qualifying and followed through on this in the Top 10 Shootout by achieving a 2m 04.271s to defeat Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Broc Feeney by 0.483s.

Feeney’s time was the benchmark after clocking a 2m 04.754s to elevate himself to an eventual second after qualifying yesterday evening in fifth.

The second row is made up of Monster Energy Racing’s Cameron Waters and the surprise packet of qualifying, Nulon Racing’s James Golding. The Victorian was second in the session yesterday in what was the squad’s best result so far.

Shell V-Power Racing Team driver Anton De Pasquale will start fifth alongside Shane van Gisbergen in the second Red Bull Ampol Racing Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.

Row four is an all-Penrite Racing affair through David Reynolds and Matt Payne, with the veteran losing one position compared to his original placing in qualifying.

Mobil Optus 1 Racing’s Chaz Mostert and the second Shell V-Power Racing Team Mustang GT of Will Davison round out the top 10 placings.

Kostecki’s margin was the biggest witnessed in a Top 10 Shootout at Bathurst since Greg Murphy’s ‘lap of the gods’ 20 years ago.

In what is a breakout season for Kostecki and his first as a title contender, scoring his seventh pole of the year in the Top 10 Shootout is another achievement.

“It means a lot to the whole team, we’ve been fast all weekend,” said Kostecki.

“The car was awesome across the top, I just threw it down the hill, I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it down the other side.

“I was very happy to get through the Dipper there, I knew going down Conrod I was on a good lap, so I didn’t have to stuff it up.

“Very proud of this whole team, really excited to be starting off the front row tomorrow.”

Action continues tomorrow with the traditional warm up at 8:00am AEDT before the Repco Bathurst 1000 begins at 11:15pm AEDT.
