Despite all the controversy surrounding his comments regarding parity in the Friday evening press conference, Shell V-Power Racing Team’s Brodie Kostecki has completed a masterclass to take pole for the Repco Bathurst 1000.
Kostecki was last out in the Top 10 Shootout after setting provisional pole on Friday afternoon and didn’t disappoint.
Up in all three sectors, Kostecki matched his aggression with fluency to improve on Cam Waters’ benchmark.
Kostecki’s time of 2m 04.041s ensures he joins Allan Moffat and Peter Brock as drivers to score three Bathurst 1000 pole positions in succession.
Waters put in an electric middle sector and sat at the top for some time, but in the end his time was 0.176s off Kostecki’s.
The second row of the grid is an all-Walkinshaw Andretti United affair as Chaz Mostert’s effort was just 0.084s ahead of teammate Ryan Woods latter lap.
Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Broc Feeney was the lead Chevrolet Camaro in fifth after a fairly loose lap around Mount Panorama and he will line-up alongside Cooper Murray, who impressed on his first Top 10 Shootout appearance for Erebus Motorsport.
Monster Castrol Racing’s Thomas Randle was first out and moved up three positions to seventh to share the fourth row with another Top 10 Shootout debutant in Supaglass Racing’s Cam Hill.
Tyres failing to come on hurt DEWALT Racing’s Anton De Pasquale as he lines up ninth beside Nick Percat in the Bendix Racing Camaro.
Sunday’s Repco Supercars Championship action comprises of the traditional morning warm up at 8:30am before the Great Race begins at 11:45am.
