Cam Hill leads Matt Stone Racing 1-2 at Albert Park

It was double delight for Matt Stone Racing at Albert Park after Cam Hill achieved his maiden victory and teammate Nick Percat completed the squad’s first 1-2 result.

Hill won and led the start all the way in what was a shortened race interrupted by multiple safety car periods.

Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Broc Feeney was on pole, but it was Hill getting the jump into Turn 1 and holding the lead despite running wide through the exit of the opening chicane.

However, Feeney lost out when Hill ran wide at Turn 3 allowing teammate Percat and the other Red Bull Ampol Racing Camaro of Will Brown through to the podium positions.

The race was neutralised soon after following Jack Le Brocq hitting the wall exiting Turn 5 after contact with Ryan Wood, who was penalised.

At the restart, Hill enjoyed support from Percat in holding back the Red Bull Ampol Racing pair as it proved a short green flag period when David Reynolds was caught up in a three-into-one scenario at the opening corner. The TRADIE Energy Racing Camaro was spun into the gravel trap and the safety car returned to the track.

From there, it was a rapid sprint due to the race being shortened as Hill took the win ahead of Percat, Brown, Feeney and Andre Heimgartner in the R&J Batteries Racing Chevrolet Camaro made it a top five lock-out for the ‘Bow Tie’.

Monster Castrol Racing’s Cam Waters was unable to advance from sixth as Brodie Kostecki for the Shell V-Power Racing Team, Dewalt Racing’s Anton De Pasquale, rookie Cooper Murray in the Erebus Motorsport Camaro and Chaz Mostert rounded out the top 10 for Mobil 1 Optus Racing.

Penrite Racing’s two Mustangs just missed the top 10 as did the pair of PremiAir Nulon Racing Camaros, with James Courtney finishing 17th in the freshly repaired Snowy River Racing Ford.

Qualifying and Race 3 of the weekend awaits the Repco Supercars Championship on Saturday, with action beginning at 9:05am AEDT.
