The opening practice session for the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 weekend has been run and Cameron Waters set the pace in the Castrol Monster Racing Ford Mustang.
Waters set the pace in the closing stages on a 1m 11.397s to head the R&J Batteries Racing Camaro of Andre Heimgartner by 0.113s as James Courtney filled out the top three in the Snowy River Racing Mustang.
There were no major incidents during the session as Chaz Mostert led before the final influx of times, but dropped to fourth just 0.160s off the pace.
Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Will brown led teammate Broc Feeney as Penrite Racing’s Richie Stanaway, the Shell V-Power Racing Team Mustang of Anton De Pasquale, PremiAir Nulon Racing driver James Golding and Matt Payne completed the top 10.
The only driver to have trouble was SCT Motorsport’s Jaxon Evans due to a transaxle fault.
The Repco Supercars Championship returns to the track at 3:35pm AEST for the second practice session of the weekend.
