Cameron Waters takes twin poles at Winton

Carrying on from his first race win of the season yesterday, Cameron Waters has put his Monster Energy Racing Ford Mustang on pole for both events this afternoon at Winton.

In qualifying for Race 14, Waters won pole position by the barest of margins from championship leader Shane van Gisbergen.

Waters set a 1m 18.550s to lead van Gisbergen by 0.0006s as the top 25 were covered by less than a second.

Kelly Grove Racing’s David Reynolds replicated yesterday’s podium result to be third as a last gasp lap from Walkinshaw Andretti United driver Chaz Mostert elevated him to fourth as Andre Heimgartner once again highlighted Brad Jones Racing’s speed at its local circuit to round out the top five.

Backing up teammate Reynolds in sixth was Lee Holdsworth, who was only 0.255s in arrears of Waters as Shell V-Power Racing’s Anton De Pasquale, Will Brown of Boost Mobile Racing, leading rookie Broc Feeney and veteran Irwin Racing driver Mark Winterbottom completed the 10.

For Winterbottom, it was particularly impressive as an electrical problem on the opening lap of yesterday’s race hampered his run to 21st.

Leading some of the contenders to miss the top 10 was Will Davison, while Nick Percat’s form failed to change as he will start 16th, Scott Pye is behind in 19th and Tim Slade only managed 20th.

In the next qualifying session for Race 15, Waters achieved a 1m 18.342s to again lead van Gisbergen, but this time by 0.149s.

Heimgartner will start third from De Pasquale, Brown, Reynolds, Brodie Kostecki, Winterbottom, Holdsworth and Mostert.

This time Feeney was bumped out of the top 10 as he was joined by Davison, James Courtney and Slade.

Race 14 of the Repco Supercars Championship begins at 12:25pm followed by the final event at 3:35pm AEST.
