Monster Energy Racing’s Cameron Waters has continued Ford’s dominance at Carco.com.au Raceway in Perth, but it was Optus Mobil 1 Racing’s Chaz Mostert crossing the line first though a 5s penalty for a pit lane infraction dropped him to second.
Mostert was dominant throughout the race as a 5s penalty was applied after an unsafe exit from his pit box involving Waters’ Tickford Racing teammate Thomas Randle. Yesterday’s race winner was able to hold onto second from Will Brown after yet another controversial moment involving Randle where the Red Bull Ampol Racing Camaro tapped the Castrol Racing Mustang entering the final corner.
Brown was given a 5s penalty, but he was able to take the final podium place from the first Shell V-Power Racing Team Ford Mustang of Will Davison as Randle completed the top five in what was a thrilling battle with Anton De Pasquale and Broc Feeney.
Continuing his great affinity with Carco.com.au Raceway, Ryan Wood was eighth for Truck Assist Mobil 1 Racing from fellow New Zealander Matt Payne in the Penrite Racing Mustang and David Reynolds sealed the final top 10 slot in the TRADIE Racing Camaro.
Just missing the top 10 was Cameron Hill in the Supaglass Racing Camaro, while teammate Nick Percat had a troubled race after clashing with Jack Le Brocq on the opening lap leading to a 15s penalty.
Waters led the opening lap of the event, but ran wide at the final corner to allow Mostert a clear path through as the reigning champion Brodie Kostecki compounded a bad race for Erebus Motorsport by retiring with a mechanical problem.
There were no other retirements as the Camaros proved to be on the back foot again in Race 10.
The next round of the Repco Supercars Championship will be at Hidden Valley Raceway for the Darwin Triple Crown on June 15-16.
