Championship leader involved in qualifying chaos as Richie Stanaway takes provisional pole

Championship leader Will Brown was involved in late-qualifying chaos as Penrite Racing’s Richie Stanaway will start last in the Top 10 Shootout.

Significant damage was inflicted on championship leader Brown’s Red Bull Ampol Racing Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 after he ran wide and hit the wall at Turn 11.

There was further drama as the approach is blind meaning Nick Percat and Tim Slade came into contact with Brown, while Aaron Love just avoided the pile up.

Up front, Stanaway put a stunning 1m 10.444s lap together to lead Mobil 1 Optus Racing’s Chaz Mostert by 0.006s, but the margin was an incredible 0.003s back to Monster Energy Racing’s Cam Waters.

Teammate Thomas Randle was fourth ahead of Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Broc Feeney and Matt Payne in the second Penrite Racing Mustang.

Brown was seventh as PremiAir Nulon Racing’s James Golding, TRADIE Beer Racing’s David Reynolds and James Courtney for Snowy River Racing completed the top 10.

Next up for the Repco Supercars Championship is the Top 10 Shootout at 1:35pm.
