Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Shane van Gisbergen has gone one position better in the second practice at Albert Park to top the session from veteran Tickford Racing driver James Courtney.
Despite a concern regarding an oil leak, the reigning Repco Supercars champion set a 1m 44.838s to lead Courtney, who is celebrating his 500th race start, by 0.085s.
Reigning Repco Bathurst 1000 winner Chaz Mostert was third as the session ran cleanly, providing a more clear form guide than this morning’s first practice.
Fourth was Shell V-Power Racing’s Anton De Pasquale, who led teammate Will Davison, while Castrol Racing’s Thomas Randle improved significantly during the second session.
Scott Pye, Nick Percat, Jake Kostecki and David Reynolds rounded out the top 10.
Grove Racing’s Lee Holdsworth just missed the top 10 in 12th, as Tim Slade and Cameron Waters followed with the Monster Energy Racing driver failing to demonstrate frontrunning speed in both sessions.
Erebus pair Brodie Kostecki and Will Brown will be also hoping for an upturn in pace before qualifying this afternoon for the opening two races.
Repco Supercars action continues at 3pm with qualifying for the opening event of the weekend, which is then quickly followed by another session for Race 2 at 3:20pm.
