Just like in Townsville strategy was the name of the game and it was Mobil 1 Optus Racing’s Chaz Mostert this time coming out on top after chasing down Matt Payne to seal victory in Race 15 of the Repco Supercars Championship.
The opening race of the Panasonic Air Conditioning Sydney SuperNight witnessed a variety of strategies, but Mostert on two stops was able to overhaul Payne on the one to take the win, while Thomas Randle rounded out the podium for Monster Castrol Racing.
In a change of fortune for Ford it secured the top five positions as the Shell V-Power Racing Team completed the Mustang domination.
Championship leader Will Brown led the Camaro charge in sixth for Red Bull Ampol Racing as polesitter Cameron Waters was delayed during his first pit stop due to fuel and never recovered to finish seventh.
Nick Percat returned to the top 10 in the Bendix Racing Camaro from Broc Feeney in the second Red Bull Ampol Racing entry and reigning champion Brodie Kostecki completed the top 10.
Another to gamble with the one stop strategy was Cameron Hill and he just fell out of the top 10 in the closing stages.
In a rather sedate affair the only drama was at Turn 2 when Mark Winterbottom came into contact with Macauley Jones.
Jack Le Brocq was the only failure to finish when his engine spectacularly detonated four laps from the end.
Repco Supercars Championship action continues at 12:05pm AEST for Race 16 qualifying.
