Chaz Mostert takes the double in Sydney

Chaz Mostert has achieved a rare clean-sweep of results at the Panasonic Air Conditioning Sydney SuperNIght after scoring victory in Race 16.

Repeating his success from yesterday under lights, Mostert closes to within 105-points to championship leader Will Brown  after the Red Bull Ampol racing acing driver scored third.

Mostert won the start in his Mobil 1 Optus Racing Mustang from polesitter Will Davison for Shell V-Power Racing Team, but the work was not complete as his team elected for a two-stop strategy.

When Mostert emerged after his second stop, he needed to pass Brown and Monster Energy Racing’s Cam Waters, which he did so within the final 11 laps to take the win.

There was no real drama apart from a battle pack involving Nick Percat, Tim Slade, David Reynolds and Ryan Wood resulting in the latter two spearing off at Corporate Hill.

Behind the Mostert, Waters and Brown, Penrite Racing’s Matt Payne charged his way to fourth ahead of the two Shell V-Power Racing Team Mustangs as Anton De Pasquale led Davison.

Despite qualifying outside the top 10, a one-stop strategy worked in favour of reigning series winner Brodie Kostecki to be seventh from Percat, PremiAir Nulon Racing’s James Golding and Thomas Randle in a storming performance from 17th.

Title contender Broc Feeney was 11th after struggling throughout to lead Slade, Mark Winterbottom, Cameron Hill and Jack Le Brocq.

Wood and Reynolds followed as Andre Heimgartner endured a disastrous race ro be 18th.

The next round of the Repco Supercars Championship will be at Symmons Plains, Tasmania on August 16-18.
