Chevrolet and Ford share the honours after Friday in Tasmania

It was a rapid opening day for the Repco Supercars Championship at Symmons Plains, Tasmania where it hosted a pair of 25-minute practice sessions.

The honours were split between Chevrolet and Ford at the end of Friday’s actions, with veteran David Reynolds doing the job in the first session.

Reynolds hasn’t enjoyed a great start to the season, but a 51.138s put him at the top of the timesheets ahead of Shell V-Power Racing Team’s Brodie Kostecki by 0.132s.

It was a solid session from Team 18, with Reynolds’ stablemate Anton De Pasquale in third from Mobil 1 Optus Racing’s Chaz Mostert leading the Toyota charge and Broc Feeney in the Red Bull Ampol Racing Ford Mustang.

Ryan Wood led a trio of Toyotas in his Mobil 1 Truck Assist Racing Supra from the Brad Jones Racing’s Andre Heimgartner and Cam Hill.

Rounding out the top 10 was the second Red Bull Ampol Racing Mustang of Will Brown and PremiAir Racing’s Declan Fraser.

In the second session, held 10-minutes after the first it was Kostecki leading the way on a 50.947s from Penrite Racing’s Matt Payne by 0.009s and Jayden Ojeda  completed the top three for PremiAir Racing.

Reynolds was fourth ahead of Heimgartner, De Pasquale, Hill, Wood, Mostert and Brown.

Those outside the top 10 win each session included Tickford Racing duo Cam Waters and Thomas Randle.

Cooper Murray set a time in the second session after a failure in his new Erebus Motorsport Camaro in the first edition to a trip into the Turn 2 sand trap.

Saturday at Symmons Plains begins at 10am AEST with Qualifying for Race 14.
