Crash for James Courtney leads to red flag in Practice 2

Turn 5 at Albert Park has claimed another victim in Practice 2 for the MSS Security Melbourne SuperSprint.

Veteran James Courtney caused a red flag halfway through the session after losing control of the Snowy River Racing Mustang on turn-in at the fast sweeper resulting in a collision with the outside wall.

Courtney’s Mustang was severely damaged on the left-hand-side and forced him to stop leading to a red flag.

At the time, James Golding was on top of the timesheets in the PremiAir Nulon Racing Camaro on a 1m 47.163s from Red Bull Ampol Racing pair Broc Feeney and Will Brown.

Nick Percat was fourth in the Matt Stone Racing Camaro ahead of the first Mustang in Matt Payne’s Penrite Racing example and the R & J Batteries Racing entry of André Heimgartner.

Rookie Cooper Murray kept his strong pace in seventh for Erebus Motorsport, with fellow first-year driver Kai Allen making it two Penrite Racing Mustangs in the top 10 from TRADIE Racing’s David Reynolds and Cam Hill’s Dabble Racing Camaro.

Monster Castrol Racing duo Cam Waters and Thomas Randle were just outside the top 10 as was opening practice pacesetter Ryan Wood.

Others outside included Richie Stanaway, Anton De Pasquale, Will Davison, Brodie Kostecki, Jack Le Brocq and Chaz Mostert.

Qualifying for the first two races of the weekend is up next beginning at 3:25pm AEDT.
